On your way back to the airport, you can take a shuttle bus from Xelaju to Antigua where you can practice your English again. The ride will cost you US7.00-US10.00, the bus ticket $10.00. If anybody has any suggestions about my plans or any advice to make me feel a bit more at ease about being safe travelling on my own, that would be great! I speak Spanish to a conversational standard, and have travelled in other Central American countries before (though not alone) so I do 'know the ropes'. Are there direct buses/ coaches/ shuttles I can take and is any method of transport noticeably safer than others? Safety is my main concern when I am travelling with my backpack, so I'm willing to pay the extra if needs be. I will probably stay for a couple of nights in Antigua and then travel onwards to Xela. I was planning on going straight to Antigua at the airport and believe there are shuttles that can take me there? Would that be a safer option than getting a cab if I am on my own, and do they leave regularly? ![]() The plane I am looking at booking gets in at 11am. My main concern is getting from Guatemala City airport - not the safest of places - to Quetzaltenango on my own with my bags. ![]() I am very confident with finding my feet in a new place and am planning to do Spanish lessons and a homestay in Quetzaltenango. I am planning a solo trip to Guatemala this summer. ![]()
